Basket Buying Guide
Before you buy
I put this page together as a way for folks to educate themselves before making a basket purchase. Imported Nantucket style baskets have been sold here in the states since the early 1960's. They often have the name "Farnum" or "Barlow" written on the bottom. They usually retail for around $200. Prices for domestically made baskets will vary widely based on the maker, materials, and reputation. Of course baskets made here on Nantucket usually command a premium price.

Here are some classic imports. The non-oval shape, vertical pin holder, bolt attachment of the handle instead of a nail, and the plastic wrapped hinges are all giveaways as to the provenance.
You'll find some folks trying to sell these for crazy prices out there.
